Over the past 10 years we have invested heavilly in technolgies and developments that have seen the estate become largely “off-grid” for heating, water, power and waste management. We are commited to becoming fully self sufficient and carbon neautral leading the way in responsible hospitality practices.

When you visit Holbeck Estate, you can sleep well with the knowledge that we are doing everything we can to maintain and nurture the environment we are are so lucky to be part of.
Renewable Energy
Our journey to self-sufficiency involves harnessing renewable energy from our on-site solar farm and biomass systems allowing our fully electric kitchens, bedrooms and hotel to operate with little-to-no support from external supplies. As we look to the future, we remain committed to exploring and adopting even more renewable energy sources
Water & Waste Management
We understand the importance of preserving clean water sources and implementing responsible waste managment. By filtering our water supply from an underground stream and using on-site waste treatment plants (powered by solar) and natural reed beds we ensure that our operations have a minimal, if not positive, impact on the environment. We are proud to have extended this development to the local residents living near the hotel further increasing the postive environmental impacts. No waste is untreated, no waste is treated off-site. #SaveWindermere
